Diablo

I came across the album 8bit Heart by Simon Curtis today. To my surprise, it was available absolutely free from his website: http://www.simon-curtis.com/

Upon listening to the whole thing, it gave me an added boost - inspirational wise - as I felt lately I have been loosing my touch with illustrations.

The track Diablo gave me an opportunity to do something ugly, hoping that once my arm has recovered from overdoing it towards my deadline (the first 5 pages of VERMILION are complete and will preview in the next issue of Zenpop), I can paint this sucker. Like, actually paint it, not cell shade for once.

The album itself... is fantastic. The theme - about a robot boy with an 8bit heart looking for love... it's a great one for electronica enthusiasts!

In other news, Nom-Con is fast approaching! August 5th-7th. Unfortunately, this year, I cannot make the event. However, Zenpop issue 5 will be available at the event - the issue where (hopefully, if all goes to plan) you can see an exclusive first look at VERMILION. So far, two pages are complete. I'm hoping for perhaps the first 5 pages to be previewed in the next issue. But I'm hopeful and working my hardest, despite complications, and with awesome help from my colourist HappyAggro, I think I'll pull it off. C:


I did have an ultimate online release date in mind... but it might be, in fact, brought back to an earlier date than what I was thinking of, if things keep going the way they are...

Urumi

The urumi (curling blade) is a weapon originating from South India, most popular in the North Malabar Coast of the Kerala state.

I've seen it's use in the film Asoka (2001), where it's extremely flexible that it coiled right around Ashoka's body, yet sharp enough to do critical damage.

However, I first came into knowing of this weapon when I watched the trailer for the 2011 Malluwood film Urumi, of which it must play a major role in trying to defeat Vasco da Gama. 

It is a very difficult sword to master and it's only thought to the best, as incorrect use can cause great damage to its wielder. As it appears, it's most useful for multiple attacks.

Hence, I thought the urumi would be an interesting blade to give to Berbatov, who mainly uses sword based attacks with his shashka.

The text written to the left says 'urumi' in its native Malayalam. To the lower right, I also singed my name in Malayalam.

Ahaw, yeah, guys... stuff's going down. VERMILION is still in the works, but not too much info will be revealed until after June 20th, in regards to a possible release date for this pilot.


I am very excited about this one. It kinda feels like I'm shooting a film in my head... :'D


But it's turning out much better than my initial plans.


So... we've already met Xoco Apollo... but we have another new comer. Meet Sabrina! She's a Space Officer too. She actually made her first appearance in this sketch below..
